UCI Road World Championships 2017 to be held in Bergen, Norway

Bergen streaks ahead as host city – congratulations on the UCI Road World Championships 2017
Event tourism is one of the Bergen Region’s priority areas and Bergen Tourist Board works tirelessly every day to ensure that events that are important for the whole region will be hosted by Bergen. The strategic tourism plan for both the City of Bergen and Bergen Tourist Board sets concrete goals for bringing more sporting and cultural events to Bergen.

‘The fact that the Norwegian Cycling Federation and the City of Bergen have been awarded the UCI Road World Championships 2017 shows that tireless efforts over time produce the results we want for both the city and the region,’ says Anita Nybø, Manager – Bergen Convention Bureau at Bergen Tourist Board. ‘This is a fantastic opportunity for the whole region!’

‘It is great news for Bergen and the city’s inhabitants, but especially for the tourism industry, that Bergen has been chosen to host such a prestigious event as the UCI Road World Championships 2017,’ says Anita, who is over the moon about the news. ‘We will not just fill hotel beds and restaurants during the period the Championships take place, we will obviously also try to exploit the synergies such a big event generates, both before and after. We are going to enjoy the moment to the full, but we will continue to market Bergen as a host city for both small and large sporting and cultural events. Bergen can boast more than 40 international air routes and is “easy to get to”.’

The fact that Bergen will host the UCI Road World Championships in 2017 is the result of patient, but also targeted and determined efforts by both the Norwegian Cycling Federation and the City of Bergen, and we are looking forward to being a strategic partner in the time ahead for both the UCI Road World Championships 2017 and other events in the city and the region.  This is a joyous day for the whole of Norway and everyone in Hordaland County, but not least for the all the cycling clubs that will grow and flourish as a result of this decision,’ Anita Nybø says in conclusion.

Congratulations Region Bergen- we generate opportunities together!
